I added the underhood blanket (a 'silencer' in DC-speak) from the Unlimited, retired the MT/Rs for anything but serious offroading (no huge sacrifice; aside from being loud, they are not any fun on wet roads. With the Revos, the TJ handles like an XJ, which is to say, pretty well),and added a chunk of rolled rib carpeting to the cargo area and the firewall.
No way to measure results, but it seems significantly quieter, especially when the hardtop is on. I'm not sure it is any worse than our Cherokee.

I would really like to see this one writen up. I installed B-quiet sound deadener on the floor of my TJ, then layed down some carpet pading under the carpet, the difference was noticable. Still loud though 
It would be great to compare notes |

Most of this project is pretty self-explanatory.
The underhood blanket is the biggest expense and the most complicated part, but installing it is no trick at all. There are mebbe a dozen black nylon push fasteners that hold the blanket up against the underside of the hood; all the holes (but one) are predrilled in the underhood braces. Get someone to hold it up while you push in the first couple fasteners.
Cost was somewhere around a C-note, and, IMHO, you should get the factory part rather than cobbling something that cold fall down and get tangled in the fan or belts.
I no longer have the parts number, but a conversation with jeepsareus or your local Jeep partsguy should take care of that.
Not a whole lot more I can give you, but I have a new digital camera; if I can figure out how to post with it, I'll attach some pics.

If your Jeep is 98 or before(not sure about the year), I am not sure if it would fit. Make sure you got predrilled holes. The current hood on my 98 is not the original. It was replaced last year with newer design with only one windshield fluid nozzle. Previous one had two.

What are the square cutouts in your blanket about? I can see about where they should be on mine, but mine's solid.
Also, FWIW, the JK has a blanket OEM.

I am not sure but I think my old hood had some emission related information sticker on that location of the hood. The cut out was probably for that information to show through.
Exported version of TJs also had these installed from the factory. It tried to buy these but the part guys at the dealer told me these parts were only available overseas until a couple of years ago. Now it seemed they included it in the newer Rubicons and Unlimiteds.

Interesting about the export only hood blanket.
Oddly, some 'export' parts can be had if the parts guy knows how to play it.
I have a convex mirror for the driver's side which really eliminates the blind spot; it is made for export and I guess Mail Jeeps.

Interestingly, Chrysler/Dealers keep national inventory listing. If they don't have it they can direct you to whoever has it. I found this out when I was trying to purchase seat cushion for the driver side and there was like 3 left in the entire USA and they are discontinued (98 model) . When I called the dealer who had it, he was asking $300 some odd dollars for the seat cushion!!
For the case of the hood insulation, the parts catalog came up with "export only" about 3-4 years ago with no inventory available when I found out the exports had this nifty hood liner. I also later found out, Rubi and Unlimited version of blanket has the different part number.
I bought the clips from the Autozone though.

Sorry I don't have the part number. I only have old TJ part catalogs.
Newer Rubis and Unlimited come equipped with the blankets from the factory. Dealer should be able to find you part number. Last time I checked, they were around $100. |
