Shop is guessing in my opinion....
98 Wrangler. 4.0
Auto transmission. 75K miles. Shifts great, no clunking when shifting into drive...clunks when shifting into reverse.
One shop says....gears....they will remove the driveshaft and rear end gears...reverse them and reinstall...something along those lines.
Another shop says not the rear end, it's possibly the transmission.
Still another says...not the tranny...u-joints!
Agan, shifts correctly at all speeds...no clinking into drive only reverse. Been making this clunking sound for over a year...not getting worse...I just want to eliminate the noise and potential problem.

It's easy to guess when your not footing the bill. I'd say start with the cheapest and go from there.

Hope you got the fuel pump situation resolved.

Here is one thing you can try at home.

Get under the Jeep when it is in neutral and is on a flat ground where it will not roll. Grab the rear driveshaft and see if you can rotate them in either direction.

Report back.
